Skincare: Rosehip Oil and Witch Hazel

Rosehip seed oil and With Hazel are two of my essential skin care products. They are great separately and together a wonderful way for prepping your skin. Facial skin generally becomes smoother and brighter looking with continued use. Having had acne until my early twenties and then being left with pigmentation scars that took years to fade, it’s great to be thirty and garnering compliments on how great your skin looks. I’ve been using both for a number of years now and managed to get family and friends hooked.

Rosehip seed oil contains Vitamin A and Vitamin E is suitable for all skin types. Trilogy have a version at a costly £16 for 20ml. I buy mine from Naturally Thinking at a much more reasonable £6 for 100ml.

Witch Hazel (water) is a natural astringent. I use it as a toner although I do grab it in a number of other situations; to soothe that itchy insect bite, for example.

I use the products together so that I can use the oil in the morning without causing my face to feel oily and look shiny. I actually have oily skin but after showering I have dry and flakey areas, the worst being the nose. I wear makeup most days of the week and find that it applies and looks better when your skin is well prepped and moisturised. I first spritz my face with witch hazel to tone and let it dry naturally. Then I spray some witch hazel on a cotton pad to dampen it. I drop a drop or two of rosehip oil onto this and apply to my face (swipe). Repeat a few times to cover the entire face. The witch hazel stops it from being too oily on your skin. I then moisturise as normal, only I need a lot less product and by the time I’m done, I feel or look any oilier than if I hadn’t used it.

I’ve heard back from family/friends that it works well for eczema and my mum has used it to successfully fade her age/sun spots quite significantly. In these cases, it’s best that the RHO is applied alone and directly.

I purchases a spray nozzle for my Witch Hazel bottle and store a small amount of Rosehip seed oil in a glass pipette bottle so it’s easy to use. All the products and containers are available from Naturally Thinking.
